Job Description

A Special Education Teacher role is available for a full-time leave replacement position at an elementary school in Portsmouth, RI. This assignment will cover a third-grade class for students requiring special education support. The contract runs from mid-September through December, providing consistent instructional support during a maternity leave period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to special education students in a third-grade classroom
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to support student needs
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with state standards and student goals
  • Monitor and document progress toward IEP objectives and make data-driven instructional adjustments
  • Communicate regularly with families and school staff to foster a supportive learning environment
  • Maintain classroom management that promotes a safe and respectful setting for all students

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Rhode Island Special Education Teacher Certification is required
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children, ideally in a special education setting
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, instructional strategies, and behavior management techniques
  • Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Collaborative, patient, and flexible approach to managing diverse learner needs
