A special education teaching opportunity is available at an elementary school in Paterson, NJ, for a dedicated professional to support a 2nd-grade cross-categorical classroom on a leave contract basis. The role involves co-teaching alongside a general education teacher to meet the diverse needs of students both in-person and virtually.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the general education teacher to deliver tailored instruction for up to 8 students per class, with 7 currently enrolled
• Implement specialized teaching strategies to support cross-categorical special education students
• Utilize key literacy programs such as Readers and Writers Workshop, Decodeable Readers, Fundations phonics program, and Fountas and Pinnell to enhance student learning
• Provide individualized support and adaptations to ensure student success in both in-person and virtual learning environments
• Assess student progress and communicate effectively with staff and families

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid special education teaching certification
• Experience with elementary-aged students, preferably 2nd grade
• Familiarity with cross-categorical teaching and co-teaching strategies
• Proficiency in literacy programs including Readers and Writers Workshop, Decodeable Readers, Fundations, and Fountas and Pinnell
• Ability to engage students virtually and in-person
