Make a difference in the lives of students by taking on a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher for the upcoming school year, serving communities near Newport News, VA. Full-time positions are available for passionate educators who have a confirmed, active Virginia Special Education Certification and are ready to work onsite. Multiple roles offer the chance to support elementary and middle school students in both self-contained and inclusive classroom settings.
Ideal candidates will bring their expertise, flexibility, and dedication to help students reach their full potential during the AugustJune school term. Immediate openings are available, and prompt interviewing is conducted remotely via Zoom.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Special Education Certification in Virginia (required)
- Previous experience in school-based special education classrooms preferred
- Ability and enthusiasm for working onsite; virtual or remote work unavailable for these roles
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Willingness to complete district onboarding procedures, including fingerprinting prior to start
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to students in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with general education teachers and staff to support student inclusion
- Foster a supportive and structured classroom environment
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
- Communicate regularly with families and educational teams
Role Details:
- Four open positions: 1 self-contained K-2 classroom, 2 inclusion roles at the elementary level, and 1 inclusion role at the middle school
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Contract runs from August through June in alignment with the school year
- District provides structured onboarding; no additional training or supervision is outlined
