Job Description
This contract position in Newark, NJ, offers an opportunity to work as a Special Education Teacher in a specialized Autism classroom serving 6 to 8 students from Pre-K to 1st grade. The classroom is self-contained and non-verbal, with a team that includes two paraprofessionals and support from Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Occupational Therapists (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), and others across six similar classrooms within the program.
Responsibilities include supporting a high-needs student population, focusing on promoting functional behavior and communication to foster student growth and independence. The role requires a strong commitment to developing tailored strategies that meet the unique needs of nonverbal students.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification in TOSD + PreK-3 or TOH required
- Demonstrated experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, specifically in non-verbal or minimally verbal settings
- Expertise in behavior support techniques and functional communication strategies
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to implement individualized education plans
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, aligned with elementary school hours.
