Job Description
A rewarding opportunity exists for two experienced educators to work as Pre-K to 1st Grade teachers within a specialized Autism classroom serving 6 to 8 students. Located in New Brunswick, NJ, this contract position offers the chance to work in a non-verbal, self-contained classroom environment designed to support high-needs learners.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction tailored to young students on the autism spectrum, many of whom are nonverbal.
- Promote functional behavior and communication skills to foster student growth and independence.
- Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team including Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Occupational Therapists (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), and paraprofessionals.
- Maintain a supportive classroom environment with approximately six students and two paraprofessionals.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of effective educational strategies tailored to students' needs.
- Follow elementary school hours from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification: Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) plus PreK-3 certification, or Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH).
- Prior experience working with students on the autism spectrum, preferably within a self-contained classroom setting.
- Strong understanding of behavior management and communication strategies tailored to nonverbal students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a full support team of specialists and paraprofessionals.
- Commitment to fostering a nurturing and structured learning environment for high-needs students.
