Job Description

An opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher specializing in communication disorders, serving kindergarten through 4th-grade students. This full-time, contract position is based in Mount Vernon, IL, with a Monday through Friday schedule, providing consistent engagement throughout the school week.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for a caseload of 10 students within a communication disorder classroom. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support academic and social development while adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs. Monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate records are essential components of this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois LBS1 Special Education teaching certification
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in communication disorder settings
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, teaching strategies, and assessment techniques
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and school staff
