Job Description

Key Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Special Education teaching certification (SPED Licensure) for Alabama (verify at: https://tcert.alsde.edu/Portal/Public/Pages/SearchCerts.aspx)
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students in special education settings
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet a range of student needs and work within different classroom models (Inclusion, Self-Contained, Behavior Unit)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for partnering with fellow educators, students, and families
  • Passion for fostering supportive, inclusive, and empowering learning environments

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized instruction and support to elementary students with diverse learning needs
  • Manage and implement IEPs tailored to each student's goals, ensuring progress is tracked and communicated
  • Collaborate with general education staff, administrators, and families to facilitate inclusive practices
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and structured classroom atmosphere in a variety of settings (Inclusion, Self-Contained, and Behavior Unit)
  • Employ evidence-based strategies, interventions, and assistive technologies when appropriate
  • Contribute to school improvement initiatives and attend required meetings as part of a supportive educational team
