Job Description

Step into a meaningful contract position supporting students as a Special Education Teacher in the Metairie area. This role begins August 3, 2026, and extends through May 27, 2027, with a consistent MondayFriday schedule totaling 35 hours per week (seven hours per day, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch). Exact campus assignments and caseload details will be determined prior to your start, ensuring the right fit for your skills and preferences.

Your expertise will enrich the learning journey of students with special needs, partnering closely with fellow educators and support staff to foster inclusive, positive, and effective learning environments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid and active Louisiana Department of Education teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement (mandatory)
  • Ability to clear district-mandated drug screening and fingerprinting requirements in addition to standard credentialing
  • Experience with K12 students in special education settings
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Immediate eligibilitycandidates must hold current certification in Louisiana; those in process will not be considered

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs according to IEPs
  • Collaborate with families, general education staff, and support professionals to create effective classroom strategies
  • Maintain all required documentation, progress notes, and reporting for compliance and student success tracking
  • Contribute to IEP meetings and student goal setting
  • Adapt teaching materials and methods to maximize student engagement and achievement
