Job Description

Bring your special education expertise to a rewarding contract position supporting elementary or middle school students in a dynamic resource classroom environment. This opportunity offers two openings, allowing educators to specify their preferred age group and setting. As part of a collaborative school community, you will provide vital instructional and social-emotional support to students with individualized needs.

Key Qualifications:

  • Must hold a current Michigan Special Education Teacher license; proof of active licensure required with application.
  • Experience teaching in a special education/resource classroom setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with diverse abilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and small group instruction in alignment with student IEP goals.
  • Develop lesson plans and adapt curriculum materials to meet varying student needs.
  • Assess student progress and participate in IEP meetings to update goals and document achievement.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to provide integrated services.
  • Effectively manage a caseload of approximately 10 elementary or 11 middle school students, depending on placement.
  • Maintain accurate records, track student progress, and provide ongoing communication with stakeholders.

Additional Details:

  • Positions are available at either the elementary (East Leroy Elementary) or middle school (Athens High School) level; candidates should indicate their preference.
  • 35 hours per week; schedule is school-day hours per building.
  • Contract runs ASAP through June 10, 2027 (tentative end date).
