Job Description

An opportunity is available for four full-time Special Education Teachers to support elementary students in Lewiston, ME. This contract position follows the normal school year calendar and offers a structured workweek of 37.5 hours, primarily from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional late afternoons required for IEP meetings or bi-monthly staff meetings.

Key qualifications and certifications for this role include:

  • A valid Maine Special Education License
  • Endorsements required: 282B (Early Childhood Special Education, Birth5), 282E (Special Education, K8), or 282 Certification
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an elementary school setting
  • Strong understanding of individualized education programs (IEPs) and special education laws

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing, and modifying IEPs based on student needs
  • Collaborating with general education teachers, families, and support staff to create inclusive learning environments
  • Monitoring and documenting student progress, preparing reports, and participating in IEP meetings
  • Utilizing evidence-based instructional strategies tailored to diverse learners
  • Maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders regarding student development and accommodations

This role is based in Lewiston, Maine, within an elementary school setting, with a commitment to fostering student growth and success.
