Job Description

A variety of Special Education teaching opportunities are available within a K-12 public school district in Kansas City, KS. These contract positions offer educators the chance to work in both resource and self-contained classrooms, supporting students with diverse learning needs ranging from Life Skills to Autism and Medically Fragile populations.

Positions Available (14 Total):

  • Life Skills Teachers (2) Caruthers Elementary
  • Autism Teacher (1) Douglas Elementary
  • Life Skills/Medically Fragile Teacher (1) Frances Willard
  • Structured Learning Classroom (SLC) Teachers (7) Lowell Brune, New Chelsea, Stony Point South, Welborn Elementary, Argentine, Central, Eisenhower
  • Medically Fragile Teacher (1) Silver City
  • Life Skills/SAILS Teacher (1) Silver City
  • Behavior Support Classroom (BSC) Teacher (1) Arrowhead

Caseload sizes typically range between 8 and 18 students.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active Kansas teaching license in special education (must provide a copy upon onboarding)
  • Experience teaching students with diverse special education needs, including resource and self-contained settings
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Strong classroom management and collaboration skills with support staff and families

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction tailored to individual student needs across K-12 levels
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports aligned with state and federal requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student growth and compliance
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment
