Job Description

A contract opportunity is available for two experienced Special Education Teachers to work with a Pre-K through 1st grade non-verbal Autism classroom located in Jersey City, NJ. This position serves a small group of 68 students within a self-contained classroom, supported by two paraprofessionals and a multidisciplinary team including BCBA, OT, and PT professionals.

The classroom focuses on a high-needs student population characterized by non-verbal communication challenges. Teachers will play a vital role in promoting functional behavior and communication skills to foster student growth and independence. The elementary school hours for this role are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid TOSD + PreK-3 certification or TOH certification required
  • Demonstrated autism experience working with non-verbal students
  • Strong ability to support functional behavior and communication development
  • Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Commitment to individualized instruction and student-centered care

Location:
Jersey City, NJ work in a structured school setting with six similar classrooms designed for a comprehensive autism support program.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instructional strategies tailored to non-verbal autistic children
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and allied health professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor and document student progress and behavioral goals
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes independence
  • Communicate regularly with families and team members regarding student needs and growth
