This opportunity seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support elementary students in a highly inclusive environment within a Maryland public school setting. The position involves working primarily with kindergarten through second-grade students, providing both pull-out and push-in resource services tailored to individual learning needs. The role is contract-based, beginning ASAP and continuing through the end of the school year or until a permanent hire is secured.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction across all elementary subjects to a caseload of approximately 18 students.
- Implement behavioral interventions, including familiarity with Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), to support students with behavioral challenges.
- Collaborate closely with paraeducators and other support staff, adapting to fluctuating staffing levels while maintaining a student-centered approach.
- Create and maintain inclusive classroom settings where students with diverse learning needs are supported through tailored strategies.
- Document student progress and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to develop individualized education programs (IEPs).
Qualifications and Experience:
- Maryland Special Education Certification (K5) required or actively in progress.
- Experience working with early elementary students (K2) preferred.
- Background in supporting students with behavioral needs and implementing BIPs strongly preferred.
- Ability to manage resource caseloads with a blend of pull-out and push-in instructional practices.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with educational staff and families.
Location: Elementary school in Hyattsville, MD
Job Type: Contract, full school year or until permanent hire
Hours: 7 paid hours per day plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch, schedule varies
