Work Hours: 8:25 AM 3:00 PM, MondayFriday
Job Description:
An immediate opportunity is available for a Special Education Behavior Specialist supporting early elementary students in Burrillville, Rhode Island. This full-time role runs through the end of the school year and focuses on working with a K1 caseload within an elementary school setting. The Behavior Specialist will collaborate closely with special education teachers and school staff to develop and implement effective behavioral interventions, support student success, and maintain a structured and supportive learning environment. This position is ideal for a hands-on professional experienced in behavior management and early childhood special education.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of training or related experience with behavioral intervention strategies
- Experience working with students with mental health needs, special needs, and/or behavioral challenges
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with technology and willingness to continue developing skills
- Experience with case management, including collaboration with outside agencies, families, and school staff
- Positive, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to assist with physical support, de-escalation, and student safety when needed
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- Familiarity with Safety Care or Crisis Prevention and Intervention techniques preferred
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement behavioral interventions for students with disabilities
- Assist students with daily activities on both an individual and group basis
- Support safe student transportation, including bus arrival and dismissal
- Provide feedback to teachers regarding student behavior and progress
- Supervise students in classrooms, lunch, and recess settings to maintain a safe and structured environment
- Apply behavior management strategies to support student learning and engagement
- Assist in the development and interpretation of Functional Behavior Assessments Design and implement individualized behavior intervention plans
- Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and external professionals
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and staff interactions
- Travel with students as needed to support transportation and safety
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support student success
