We are currently hiring a Special Education Teacher for an elementary Life Skills classroom near Gurnee, IL. This full-time special education teaching position is ideal for a certified educator with experience in self-contained classrooms, individualized instruction, and supporting students with significant academic, developmental, and behavioral needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in an elementary Life Skills / self-contained classroom setting
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs of students with disabilities
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school staff
- Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
- Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with IDEA standards
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Special Education endorsement (required)
- Experience in a self-contained, Life Skills, or cross-categorical special education classroom preferred
- Strong classroom management, communication, and instructional planning skills
- Commitment to supporting students with moderate to significant disabilities
