Job Description

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate, ideally with endorsements in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitively Impaired (CI), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) plus special education.
  • Experience with or understanding of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA regulations.
  • Comfort working in an urban district and with students facing unique social and academic challenges.
  • Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and advocating for special education populations.
  • Official university transcripts required before placement consideration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction in self-contained or resource settings with a maximum of 22 students per class.
  • Manage caseloads that may vary based on school needs (K-12; CI, EI, and LD positions available).
  • Collaborate with the wider special education team, paraprofessionals, and specialists to provide comprehensive support plans for students.
  • Utilize professional development, mentorship, and training resources provided to enhance instructional skill and student outcomes.
  • Engage thoughtfully with students and families, advocating for their needs and connecting them to appropriate resources.
