As a Special Education Teacher in an Emotional Disabilities (ED) classroom within an alternative education environment, youll play a pivotal role in supporting learners who require specialized programming and care.
This full-time, contract opportunity is designed for educators passionate about fostering resilience and skill development in students with significant needs. Youll find purpose working within a therapeutic, highly structured setting focused on individualized solutions.
Key Qualifications:
- Current South Carolina Special Education certification, or the ability to obtain it
- Experience working with students in ED, behavioral, or alternative settings is highly desirable
- Strong expertise in classroom management and crisis intervention techniques
- Recognized talent for maintaining a calm, consistent, and empathetic presence, especially during escalated situations
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized, standards-based instruction aligned with IEP objectives
- Implement effective behavior intervention plans and utilize de-escalation strategies as needed
- Create a therapeutic classroom environment that encourages structure and consistency
- Support students social-emotional growth and skill-building
- Collaborate regularly with behavioral specialists, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams
- Maintain comprehensive records and actively participate in IEP meetings
