A rewarding contract opportunity is available for a passionate Special Education Teacher to support elementary students in a self-contained Autism classroom. In this full-time, school-based role, you will play a vital part in guiding young learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them develop foundational academic, social, and life skills in a highly supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each students needs.
• Deliver direct instruction aligned with state standards and personal learning goals.
• Use evidence-based teaching strategies specifically designed for students with ASD.
• Establish and reinforce positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
• Collaborate closely with a team of specialists, including related service providers and therapists.
• Provide leadership and direction to classroom paraprofessionals.
• Monitor student progress, maintain accurate compliance documentation, and adjust strategies as needed.
• Foster skill-building across academics, communication, and independent living.
• Keep the classroom environment safe, structured, and engaging for all learners.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Hold or qualify for a Virginia Special Education Teaching License.
• Background in developing and applying IEPs.
• Strong understanding of special education documentation and compliance.
• Effective classroom management and experience with behavioral supports.
• Skilled at teamwork and collaborating with families and professionals.

Preferred:

• Experience with elementary-age students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, especially in self-contained settings.
• Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, and alternative communication systems.
• Training in crisis prevention or de-escalation techniques is a plus.
