Job Description

Make a meaningful impact by delivering essential educational services directly to a student in a hospital setting. An immediate, part-time contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide in-person instruction at Childrens National Hospital in Washington, DC. Your expertise will help ensure continuity of learning for a student receiving care, offering one hour of instruction and one hour of planning daily, Monday through Friday, for a total of 10 hours each week through the school year.

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Special Education Teaching Certification
  • Experience working in special education environments; prior hospital or homebound teaching is highly valued
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to adapt instruction to unique settings
  • Availability for on-site instruction between 9 AM and 3 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Capacity to provide engaging, individualized learning experiences
  • Reliable personal transportation to the hospital location (please note parking is not covered)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver in-person instruction tailored to the students IEP goals within a hospital context
  • Collaborate with school and hospital staff to maintain educational continuity and ensure best practices
  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans; complete necessary documentation and reporting
  • Maintain consistent, compassionate communication with students, families, and support teams
  • Uphold all confidentiality, safety, and professional standards for working within a healthcare environment
