Job Description
A special education position is available in Edison, NJ, supporting a non-verbal self-contained Autism classroom serving students in Pre-K through 1st grade. This contract role focuses on working closely with 6 students and a team of 2 paraprofessionals in a high-needs environment. The program includes six similar classrooms, each staffed with a comprehensive support team such as BCBAs, occupational therapists, and physical therapists, fostering a collaborative approach to student development.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting students with autism who are often nonverbal, with a strong emphasis on promoting functional behavior and communication to encourage student growth and independence. This opportunity requires an understanding of the specific needs of students in an Autism classroom and the ability to implement individualized educational plans effectively.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Certifications required: TOSD + PreK-3 or TOH
- Proven experience working with autistic students in an educational setting
- Ability to support nonverbal students and promote functional communication
- Experience in promoting positive behavior interventions and supports
- Collaborative mindset to work alongside paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Familiarity with individualized education programs (IEPs) and behavior plans

- Hours: 8:30 AM 3:30 PM
- Program includes support from BCBA, OT, and PT professionals
