Job Description

Make a genuine difference in the lives of elementary students as a Special Education Teacher working with a small caseload of Kindergarten and 1st-grade learners. In this contract position, you'll be part of a supportive environment near Detroit, MI, focusing on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. As their teacher, you'll collaborate with two paraprofessionals and benefit from robust support from both building-level staff and the special education team.

Qualifications & Experience Sought:

  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education with an Autism Spectrum Disorder endorsement
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in a K-1 setting
  • A talent for adapting curriculum and instruction to meet individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with support staff and families
  • Must be available to work onsite, full time
  • Demonstrated compassion, patience, and enthusiasm for inclusive education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans for a group of seven K-1 students
  • Foster a safe, positive, and engaging classroom atmosphere
  • Work in tandem with two paraprofessionals to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth
  • Collaborate closely with the buildings SPED team to coordinate services and interventions
  • Regularly communicate progress to parents/guardians and attend IEP meetings
  • Uphold all compliance and documentation requirements
