Job Description

Make a meaningful impact supporting high school students as a Special Education Teacher in a contracted position located near Detroit, MI. This role offers the unique opportunity to serve a single school site, working closely with a caseload of 19 students. Your expertise will play a vital part in building a positive, inclusive learning environment for young adults with diverse learning needs.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current Michigan Special Education teaching certification required
  • Experience working with high school-aged learners preferred
  • Skills in adapting curriculum to meet individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families
  • Commitment to on-site teaching; remote work is not available for this role

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and adapt coursework for high school students with special needs
  • Deliver direct instruction and classroom support for a caseload of 19 students
  • Monitor student progress, document growth, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging classroom culture
  • Communicate regularly with families and support staff to ensure student success

Position Details:

  • Full-time contract; 20 hours per week (morning schedule, 4 hours per day)
  • On-site position at a single school

The schools support staff provides a collaborative environment, with panel-style interviews and flexible scheduling due to the immediate need. Youll have the opportunity to start as soon as possible and support students throughout the ESY (extended school year) timeline.
