Job Description
Make a positive difference in the lives of high school students with complex behavioral needs in a dynamic, supportive educational environment. This full-time special education teaching opportunity offers a rewarding contract role from now through June 18, 2027, guiding students in a self-contained setting. You'll work closely with learners who have Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or significant behavioral challenges, helping them access curriculum and develop essential coping and social skills.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) special education teaching license, appropriate for secondary (high school) students
- Ability to demonstrate or complete Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency (Right to Read Act compliance) within one year of hire
- Experience with self-contained (sub-separate) high school classrooms or working with populations with severe behavioral needs preferred
- Skill in designing and implementing IEPs that meet students individualized academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with families, related service providers, and school teams
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver differentiated instruction to support academic and behavioral growth in a self-contained high school classroom
- Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where students receive positive behavioral supports
- Develop, write, and implement IEPs tailored to students with EBD or significant behavioral needs
- Utilize data collection and progress monitoring to drive instructional decisions and behavioral strategies
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, counselors, and paraeducators to provide holistic student support
- Maintain ongoing documentation and regular communication with families and caregivers
