Job Description

A full-time special education teaching opportunity is available in Cottage Grove, MN, supporting high school students (grades 912) in a focused learning environment. The assignment runs from September 2026 through Thanksgiving 2026, with daily hours from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

This role involves working with a caseload of approximately 1620 students, primarily providing instruction in reading intervention and support in study skills/executive functioning. Key responsibilities include assisting students with academic organization, planning, and learning strategies, collaborating closely with general education staff and support teams, and developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while monitoring student progress. Ensuring compliance with state and district special education regulations is essential.

Candidates must meet Minnesota state requirements to work as a special education teacher, which typically include:

  • Holding a Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in special education
  • Obtaining a Minnesota teaching license through the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board
  • Demonstrated competency in Standards of Effective Practice and core special education skills
  • Relevant licensure area such as Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ABS), or Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD)
  • Completion of student teaching or practicum experience

Preferred qualifications include experience working with high school students, a background in reading intervention and executive functioning support, strong IEP development and compliance knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
