Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and student-centered High School Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in grades 912. The teacher will develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs), provide specialized instruction, collaborate with general education staff, and help students build academic, social, behavioral, and transition skills necessary for postsecondary success. Responsibilities commonly include IEP development, progress monitoring, collaboration with families and staff, and specialized instruction aligned with student needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide direct instruction in resource, inclusion, co-teaching, or self-contained settings.
- Modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and supports are implemented.
- Conduct progress monitoring and maintain accurate special education documentation.
- Participate in IEP meetings, reevaluations, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Support students with transition planning related to college, employment, independent living, and career readiness.
- Maintain communication with parents, guardians, and service providers.
- Implement behavioral supports and intervention plans when needed.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid Maryland Teaching Certificate in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) or eligibility for certification.
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP compliance requirements, and special education best practices.
- Strong classroom management, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Experience working with high school students preferred.

Compensation for this position ranges from $19.00 to $40.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals.
