Job Description

Step into a meaningful teaching position supporting middle school students with unique abilities. This contract role offers the chance to provide specialized instruction in an Intensive Communications Program, beginning August 14 and running through November 1, with the potential for extension. Youll be working full-time35 hours per weekserving a classroom of nine students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, all committed to a functional and life skills-focused curriculum.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering tailored instruction aligned with student IEPs, utilizing the Unique Learning curriculum
  • Collaborating closely with two dedicated paraprofessionals to implement lessons and provide individualized support
  • Facilitating life skills practice with resources including a mini-kitchen and laundry area
  • Organizing and supervising multiple field trips to deepen real-world learning
  • Tracking student progress and communicating regularly with families and related service providers
  • Maintaining a positive, structured, and engaging class environment

Qualifications and background:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement is required
  • Experience working with students on the Autism spectrum or leading highly functional skills programs is highly desired
  • Strong background in implementing functional/life skills curricula
  • Excellent communication, patience, and collaborative skills
  • Passion for helping each learner maximize independence in both classroom and community settings
