Make a meaningful difference supporting students growth in a full-time, contract Special Education teaching opportunity in the Chicago area. As an instructor in a self-contained academic life skills classroom, youll collaborate with a dedicated team to deliver individualized education for a small group of students with autism, Down Syndrome, and diverse medical needs.
This role is immersed in a supportive school culture, with hours running Monday through Friday, 8:35 AM to 3:30 PM, allowing for a work-life balance within the academic year.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement required
- Previous experience teaching in a self-contained special education setting, especially with low-incidence and life-skills populations
- Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of students with complex learning or medical requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specially designed academic and functional life-skills instruction for 79 students, adjusting to individual learning styles and medical accommodations
- Develop and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring compliance with state regulations and student needs
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessional support, related service providers, and families on goal planning and progress monitoring
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes independence, safety, and engagement
