Job Description

A special education teaching opportunity is available for certified professionals passionate about supporting K-12 students with severe disabilities. This onsite contract role starts December 1, 2023, and runs through May 22, 2026, providing consistent engagement within a dynamic learning environment.

Position Details:

  • Location: Chapel Hill, NC (onsite only)
  • School Type: K-12 public school
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day (35 hours/week)
  • Caseload: Approximately 10 students per classroom with severe disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), non-verbal communication challenges, difficult behaviors, and developmental delays
  • Support: Classroom paraeducators and behavior specialists (Registered Behavior Technicians and Board Certified Behavior Analysts) assist with classroom management and student support

Qualifications:

  • Active North Carolina Special Education Teaching license with certification in Adaptive Curriculum OR Cross-Categorical (mild to moderate disabilities)
  • Experience working with students requiring adapted curriculum instruction
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary support staff
  • Commitment to onsite teaching to meet the needs of students with severe disabilities

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored instruction aligned with adaptive curriculum standards for diverse K-12 student needs
  • Develop individualized education programs (IEPs) addressing social, cognitive, and behavioral goals
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
  • Collaborate closely with paraeducators, behavior specialists, families, and administration
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
