Job Description

Step into a valued special education assignment supporting a Middle School Intensive Communications Program. This contract role offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference with a small class of studentsspecifically, a group of nine with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. The on-site classroom is well-resourced, including two dedicated paraprofessionals and specialized facilities for life skills development such as a mini-kitchen and laundry area. Students benefit from the Unique Learning curriculum, with learning extended into the community through regular field trips.

Enjoy a collaborative environment where your expertise shapes students progress and independence. This assignment is full time (35 hours per week) and scheduled from August 14 to November 1, with coverage for FMLA and the possibility of extension.

What you bring:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement
  • Previous experience working with students with Autism and/or individuals in functional life skills or self-contained programs strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with functional/life skills curriculumincluding Unique Learningor a desire to learn
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with paraprofessionals
  • Ability to foster a supportive, structured, and engaging classroom atmosphere

Your responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and small-group instruction in communication, functional academics, and life skills
  • Manage IEP goals and collaborate with related service providers
  • Create engaging lesson plans and implement curriculum, adapting as needed
  • Supervise and support paraprofessionals in daily activities
  • Promote community-based instruction and hands-on learning
