Make a meaningful impact this school year as a Special Education Teacher supporting middle school students enrolled in an Intensive Communications Program. This contract opportunity offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week from August 14 through November 1, with potential for extension based on coverage needs. Youll play a vital role in a class of nine students, each diagnosed with Autism or intellectual disabilities, helping them follow functional and life skills-focused learning.
What Youll Bring:
- Active LBS1 and PEL credentials (required)
- Experience teaching students with Autism or in functional skill-based programs
- Comfortable implementing functional/life skills curriculum
- Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and adapt instruction for diverse learning styles
- Familiarity with Unique Learning System or similar specialized curriculum is a plus
- Dedication, patience, and a student-centered mindset
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a classroom of students using the Unique Learning curriculum, integrating practical skills through mini-kitchen and laundry activities
- Collaborate closely with two full-time paraprofessionals to support individualized instruction and daily routines
- Plan and supervise regular community-based field trips that help foster real-world skills and independence
- Implement IEP goals, monitor student progress, and work in partnership with families and support staff
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment
