Job Description

Step into a rewarding contract position supporting student well-being as a Mental Health Specialist for the 2025/26 school year. This role focuses primarily on providing counseling to general education students at the high school level, fostering resilience, positive behaviors, and emotional growth. Youll collaborate directly with students and staff, helping create a positive and supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions for general education students, addressing social and emotional needs
  • Support school-wide initiatives, such as professional learning and implementation of positive behavior programs
  • Document services and progress using SOAP notes and electronic systems, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping
  • Engage with staff and administration to offer insights and strategies for student support
  • Act as a compassionate resource for students navigating challenges, helping them thrive both academically and personally

Desired Qualifications:

  • Masters degree required; applicants with only a bachelors will not be considered
  • Current, valid license or credential in one of the following (or eligible under Michigan law with supervision where necessary):
    • Licensed Masters Level Psychologist
    • Limited Licensed Masters Level Psychologist (with supervision)
    • MDE credentialed Masters Level School Psychologist
    • Licensed Masters Level Social Worker (or School Social Worker)
    • Limited Licensed Masters Level Social Worker (with supervision)
    • Licensed Masters Level Marriage & Family Therapist
    • Licensed Masters Level Professional Counselor (or limited license with supervision)
    • Relevant School Counselor credentials or temporary licenses per Michigan guidelines
  • Familiarity with SOAP note documentation and electronic records
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
  • Passion for working with adolescents and a proactive, team-oriented mindset
