Job Description

Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to support students communication and learning in a dynamic school setting in Northern Virginia. This contract role offers a unique opportunity for skilled sign language interpreters to join a flexible, as-needed pool and make a difference in young peoples lives across multiple schools. The assignment framework is still in development, with scheduling to be determined based on real-time district needs. This is a part-time, on-call position, ideal for interpreters who prefer a variable work schedule.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and adaptability skills
  • Interpreting experience in educational or youth-focused environments preferred
  • Possession or willingness to obtain a VQAS Level III or a 3.5 EIPA score (final requirements will be clarified)
  • Ability to pass both the Virginia Department of Social Services background check and a TB test

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional ASL interpretation for students, school staff, and families as needed
  • Adapt to assignments at different school locations based on caseload and district priorities
  • Facilitate clear, respectful communication to support equal access to learning
  • Maintain confidential and ethical interpreting practices
  • Collaborate with educators and school teams to address student needs
