A professional opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support communication needs in educational settings. This travel position offers the chance to work in schools located in Wetumpka, AL, providing essential interpreting services that enhance accessibility and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, educators, and staff through American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation
- Translate spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Collaborate with teachers and support personnel to ensure effective communication accommodations
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Travel to various schools within the designated area as assigned
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language, with demonstrated interpreting experience in educational settings
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and communication needs of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel to multiple school locations as required
- Relevant certification or credentialing in sign language interpreting is preferred
