This is a contract opportunity for professionals skilled in American Sign Language, offering meaningful work within an inclusive educational setting. Located near vibrant West Palm Beach, FL, you'll collaborate with educators and therapists to provide essential communication access to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Key Qualifications:
- Active SLI (Sign Language Interpreter) license, meeting state and educational requirements
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language
- Proven experience interpreting within school environments, serving K-12 populations
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and best practices in educational interpreting
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to student learning
Role Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, accurate communication between students, staff, and peers using ASL and other adopted communication methods
- Interpret classroom discussions, assemblies, and extracurricular activities to ensure full student participation
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the individual needs and developmental levels of assigned students
- Support student comprehension of curriculum and classroom expectations
- Uphold confidentiality and professional standards in all settings
- Serve as a resource for cultural awareness and effective communication strategies for staff and students
