A position is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support schools in Waterbury, CT. This role involves travel between educational settings to provide essential communication access for students and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and staff members
- Attend meetings and school events to ensure full participation for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals
- Collaborate with educators and support personnel to adapt materials and communication methods as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Knowledge of interpreting standards and educational terminology
- Ability to travel between multiple school sites within the Waterbury, CT area
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Relevant certification or licensure in sign language interpretation is preferred
