Job Description

In this full-time, contract position, youll support students and staff, working collaboratively with educational teams to foster an inclusive and enriching learning environment. Qualifications:

  • Hold a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III, or
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, plus a passing score on the written test
  • Other credentials that the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) recognizes as equivalent
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language and English
  • Experience in an educational environment preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with school personnel
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

What Youll Do:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers in a variety of settings (including classrooms, assemblies, and meetings)
  • Consult with teachers and staff regarding effective communication strategies
  • Help foster engagement and participation in learning experiences
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Adapt to various classroom environments and grade levels, providing consistent and high-quality interpreting

This is a full-time contract position offering 37.5 hours per week, starting as soon as possible and continuing through the end of the school year. Located near Virginia Beach, youll enjoy a supportive educational community and the chance to positively impact students' lives each day.
