Job Description

Your expertise as an educational interpreter will ensure a positive, inclusive learning environment for one student, allowing them to fully participate in their daily school experience. Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid California SLI (Sign Language Interpreter) certification is required
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or as a paraprofessional in educational settings strongly preferred
  • Strong receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Ability to foster trust and encourage engagement with middle school students
  • Professionalism in maintaining confidentiality and adhering to school protocols

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a middle school student, ensuring direct access to instruction through accurate ASL interpretation
  • Facilitate communication between student and school staff, both inside and outside the classroom environment
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to match course material and classroom activities
  • Support classroom participation and inclusion, interpreting a variety of instructional and social interactions
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to help meet student goals
