Job Description

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably K-12.
  • Ability to adapt interpreting style to meet the unique needs of students and classroom situations.
  • Certification or licensure as required by state guidelines (such as EIPA, RID, or comparable credential).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on professionalism, collaboration, and sensitivity to student confidentiality.
  • High level of reliability and commitment for the duration of the contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction and all school communications, facilitating clear understanding for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Support communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers, both one-on-one and in group settings.
  • Adapt to different subject matters and instructional activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow school protocols regarding student support.
  • Engage with teachers and educational staff to ensure students needs are met effectively.
  • Participate in planning and team meetings as required to provide input on students communication access.
