As an on-site Sign Language Interpreter, youll play a pivotal role in supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring clarity and equal access to education throughout the school week. Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time interpreting services for students, staff, and the classroomtranslating spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to foster an inclusive educational environment
- Tailor interpreting approaches to meet diverse student needs and learning situations
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Participate in team meetings and trainings as needed
Desired Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current license or permit from the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT)
- Proven skills in educational interpreting, particularly within school settings
- Strong interpersonal abilities and professional communication style
- Passion and commitment to supporting the learning and development of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
