Step into a rewarding opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter serving students in a dynamic school environment near The Villages, FL. This full-time, contract-based position runs from August through late May, and positions are opening for the 2026-2027 academic year. The expected workload is 37.5 hours per week, generally encompassing standard school hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day. Most assignments will involve providing 1:1 interpreting services for students, ensuring equal access to educational content and fostering an inclusive classroom setting.
Ideal candidates are experienced professionals with a passion for supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Youll be empowered to make a meaningful impact in students academic and social lives while working closely with school staff and families.
Qualifications:
- Meets state and district standards for interpreting in an educational environment
- Holds either an EIPA level 3 (or higher) OR a current RID certification (NIC, NAD, Educational Cert: K-12, or OTC)
- Prior experience in K-12 settings preferred
- Ability to adapt and communicate effectively with students, staff, and families
- Prepared to complete district-specific onboarding including credentialing and procedural paperwork
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate and effective sign language interpretation, primarily in a 1:1 student context
- Assist in classroom communication and facilitate understanding between students, staff, and peers
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards within the school environment
- Participate in school team meetings as requested
- Complete necessary time reporting and approval processes weekly
