Job Description

Make a meaningful impact every day by supporting students in a K-12 Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) classroom as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time contract opportunity offers a dynamic onsite environment near Tecumseh, MI, where your expertise will foster communication, inclusion, and academic growth for students who rely on American Sign Language (ASL).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in ASL and educational interpreting for DHH students (K-12).
  • EIPA score of 4.0 or higher, with current Michigan interpreter license through LARA.
  • Candidates with EIPA scores between 3.5-3.9 may be considered if they have tested within the last 24 months and completed CEUs (subject to director waiver).
  • Experience working in school-based settings is highly valued.
  • Collaborative, professional, and committed to student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, assignments, and activities between students, teachers, and staff to ensure clear communication.
  • Adapt interpreting styles to meet the needs of diverse learners and classroom situations.
  • Support teachers by facilitating inclusive learning environments for DHH students.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all interpreting assignments.
  • Collaborate with educational teams to assess and respond to student needs.
  • Participate in required trainings and ongoing professional development.
