Job Description
Provide expert American Sign Language interpretation services within a K-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) classroom setting in Tecumseh, MI. This full-time, onsite role supports effective communication and learning for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring accessibility and inclusion throughout their educational experience.
Key responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, accurate sign language interpretation between educators, students, and staff in the classroom
- Support communication access during academic lessons, meetings, and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to promote a positive learning environment
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and documentation
Qualifications:
- EIPA score of 4.0 or higher, with Michigan licensure through LARA
- Candidates with an EIPA score between 3.5-3.9 may be considered if the score was obtained in the last 24 months and continuing education units (CEUs) have been completed; waivers may be granted based on director approval
- Strong knowledge of ASL and educational interpreting in K-12 settings
- Commitment to supporting DHH students academic and social development
