Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant sign systems
- Ability to adapt signing techniques for students varied communication preferences and age groups
- Familiarity with educational interpreting in K-12 environments is preferred
- National or state interpreter certification is a plus
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Responsibilities:
- Interpret verbal communication, instructions, and classroom activities between school staff and students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Provide real-time interpretation during academic lessons, assemblies, parent meetings, and extracurricular events
- Collaborate with educators, counselors, and specialists to facilitate student inclusion and engagement
- Support students self-advocacy skills and independence through clear communication
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting services and participate in IEP meetings as needed
