Job Description

Step into a rewarding contract position supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant educational environment near Tacoma, WA. In this role, youll provide vital communication access for K-12 students requiring sign language support, playing a key part in their classroom engagement and achievement. The assignment spans the entire academic year, from September 2nd to June 17th, with a consistent 32.5-hour workweek at a single school siteoffering stability and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships within the school community.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Washington State Sign Language Interpreter certification is required.
  • Experience interpreting for children and adolescents from kindergarten through twelfth grade is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with educational settings and IEP processes is a plus.
  • Strong receptive and expressive American Sign Language (ASL) skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in school environments.
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for working across various age groups (please indicate your preference, if any).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret lessons, presentations, discussions, and school activities for K-12 students and staff.
  • Support students participation in both academic and extracurricular settings.
  • Collaborate with general and special education teams to facilitate access and inclusion.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning experience while meeting established educational goals.
  • Participate in virtual panel-style interviews and onboarding as required by the district.
