Step into a dynamic educational environment where your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter will make a daily difference in the lives of students. This contract opportunity is located near Tacoma, WA, within a welcoming elementary school. For the duration of the academic year (from September 3, 2025, through June 23, 2026), you'll commit to 31.5 hours per week, working closely with D/deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students, educators, and community members. Your role will center around ensuring clear and precise communication across various settings to support student learning and accessibility.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Successful completion of an Interpreter Training Program (documentation required)
- RID and/or EIPA assessment score of 4.0 or higher (as mandated by Washington State law)
- Valid Washington State Drivers License or demonstrated transportation capability
- Previous experience in school settings preferred
- Strong skills in sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation
- Ability to facilitate instructional activities under the guidance of teaching staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and activities to facilitate effective communication for D/HH students
- Adapt interpreting approaches to suit diverse educational and social interactions
- Support legal compliance with IDEA, ADA, and other standards
- Collaborate with teachers and school personnel to foster inclusive educational experiences
- Engage in activities that facilitate the education and integration of D/HH students
