Job Description
A Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide essential communication support for middle school students in Tacoma, WA. This full-time contract position is onsite, offering a stable work environment through June 16, 2026. The role involves working approximately 35 hours per week, with 6.5 hours paid daily, supporting the communication needs of students at Illahee Middle School.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective communication by interpreting sign language for students with hearing impairments in academic settings.
- Collaborate with educators, students, and support staff to ensure accessible and equal educational opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance interpreting skills.
Qualifications:
- Current Washington State license as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) with a minimum Education Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
- Demonstrated expertise in sign language interpretation within educational environments.
- Ability to work onsite in Tacoma, WA, adhering to the schools schedule and policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering an inclusive school community.
