Job Description

Transform the educational experience for a 9th-grade student by providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation within a dynamic high school setting. This contract role spans the academic year, working closely with a student in a behavioral classroom, ensuring clear and effective access to instruction. The student utilizes cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, making your expertise and adaptability essential to fostering engagement and success.

Key Qualifications:

  • Possession of at least one of the four national Sign Language Interpreter certifications
  • Proficiency in ASL, with experience in educational or behavioral classroom environments
  • Ability to adapt communication style to suit a student who identifies as hearing but relies on an interpreter for clear instruction
  • Professionalism and reliability, with sensitivity to the individual needs of students
  • Previous experience supporting learners with hearing devices and/or specialized equipment is strongly preferred

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver ASL interpretation for all classroom instructional times (excluding lunch, arrival, and dismissal periods)
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to facilitate communication and student participation
  • Maintain complete confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions
  • Help support smooth transitions for a student adjusting after a return from a Residential Day School Program
  • Contribute to a positive classroom environment and advocate for accessible learning
