Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) - Multiple Openings
Suffolk, VA

Full-Time | 40 hours/week
Were excited to connect with dedicated Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) seeking a collaborative, team-based school role for the upcoming school year.
This opportunity is unique in that interpreters will work in pairs, supporting students together and creating a consistent, supportive communication environment across the school day.
Position Details
- Full-time: 40 hours/week
- Team-based model: 2 SLIs per student with split shifts

Opportunities in both:
- Elementary setting (9:00 AM 4:00 PM)
- High school setting (8:00 AM 3:00 PM)

After-school support available for some students:
- One student participates in track
- Includes 23 hours after practices and occasional weekend meets (travel possible)
What Youll Do
- Provide consistent interpretation support throughout the school day
- Collaborate closely with your SLI partner and school staff
- Support both academic access and social communication
- Adapt communication style to meet individualized student needs
Requirements
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher + passing written exam
- VQAS Level III or equivalent approved by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Requires familiarity with individualized communication modes and gestures
