Job Description

Step into a rewarding role supporting student communication and access as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming academic year. This contract opportunity spans from August 2026 through June 2027, offering a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week. Youll collaborate with school teams to enhance the educational experience for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, ensuring inclusivity and successful participation in classroom activities.

Key Qualifications:

  • Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, plus a passing score on the written component
  • Alternatively, other qualifications accepted by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
  • Familiarity with school environments and a passion for supporting student success
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate clear, accurate communication

Core Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) accurately for students, staff, and faculty
  • Provide interpretation services across classroom activities, meetings, assemblies, and extracurriculars
  • Collaborate with teachers and educational staff to tailor interpreting services for students individual needs
  • Maintain professional ethics and confidentiality in all assignments
  • Support a positive, accessible, and inclusive environment for all learners
