Job Description

Key qualifications for this position include:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Completion of an interpreter training program or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and educational interpreting ethics
  • Previous experience interpreting in a school setting is highly valued
  • Ability to adapt signing style for various ages and academic settings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Certification such as EIPA, RID, or state credentials preferred but not required

Responsibilities in this dynamic setting:

  • Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and staff using ASL
  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, assignments, and events
  • Adapt interpreting strategies to suit individual student needs and content areas
  • Support students participation in both academic and extracurricular activities
