This opportunity is for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication support within school settings. This role involves travel to various schools in the Stamford, CT area, allowing for diverse experiences in educational environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school staff.
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom lessons, meetings, and school events.
- Collaborate with educators and support personnel to ensure accessibility and inclusion.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpretation.
- Adapt to various educational settings and student needs through travel within the assigned region.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with strong interpreting skills.
- Experience working as a sign language interpreter, preferably in school or educational settings.
- Ability to travel to multiple school locations as required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom procedures is highly advantageous.
- Certification from a recognized interpreting body is preferred.
